INSR 2020 Property and Liability Insurance Principles, 3 credits

A study of the fundamental concepts and principles of property and liability insurance. Topics include types of insurance, insurance contracts, policy provisions, insurance company operations and performance, and the regulation of insurance. Focuses on the insurer as an integrated entity designed to meet certain risk management needs of individuals, families, and businesses in a profitable manner.
 

INSR 2030: Personal Insurance, 3 credits

Examines risks faced by individuals and families and the use of insurance as the primary risk management tool. Topics include auto, property, liability, life, and health insurance, and basic financial planning. Emphasizes the knowledge and skills required to create a personal risk management plan.
 

INSR 2040: Commercial Insurance, 3 credits

A study of the property and liability risks faced by businesses and the various risk management techniques that can be used to manage them. Examines insurance for commercial crime, equipment and other property, business income, inland and ocean marine, general liabilities, and personnel. Emphasizes how such risks impact the net income of a business.
 

INSR 2110- Foundations of Risk Management and Insurance, 3 credits

Introduction to Risk Management including; Risk Assessment, Risk Control, Risk Financing, Enterprise-Wide Risk Management, Insurance as a Risk Management Technique, Insurance Policy Analysis, Common Policy Concepts. Relating risk management and insurance principles to everyday practices. Using the risk management framework to solve problems. Analyzing insurance policies by learning a systematic method of analysis.
 

INSR 2120-Insurance Operations, 3 credits

Overview of Insurance Operations, Insurance Regulation, Insurance Marketing and Distribution, The Underwriting Function, Underwriting Property and Liability Insurance, Risk Control and Premium Auditing, The Claim Function, Adjusting Property and Liability Claims, Actuarial Operations, Reinsurance, Insurer Strategic Management. Understanding how different functional areas operate and interact with each other to positively affect overall operations. Understanding the pervasive effects of regulation on core insurance operations. Understanding the process insurers use to formulate and implement critical business strategies.
 

INSR 2130-Business Law for Insurance Professionals, 3 credits

Introduction to U.S. Law, Contract Law, Contract Law Insurance Applications, Commercial Law,Property Law, Tort Law, Agency Law and Insurance Applications, Business Ethics and Employment Law, International Legal Environment. Learn how client contracts may effect coverage. Prepare to manage or mitigate the effects of litigation by learning insurance applications of contract and tort law. Understanding Agency Law and the related insurance applications.
 

INSR 2070: Customer Service, 3 credits

Provides a comprehensive introduction to customer service in the insurance industry. Topics include customer behavior, communication skills, and customer service personnel, organization, processes, measurement, and technology. Emphasizes the knowledge and skills required to deliver excellent customer service.
